The Libraries were recently able to reinstate the subscription to Material ConneXion, a database of information about materials; their properties, applications, associated processes, and companies/vendors.

Books, Journals, eBooks, DVDs . . .

The search box on the Rensselaer Libraries homepage provides numerous ways to begin your research

  • Quick Search (the default in the Search box) searches most of the Libraries resources, includes journal articles and items that may only be available through interlibrary loan.  
  • The Libraries' Catalog includes all materials the libraries own or have access via subscriptions.
    • Search results may include books, ebooks, journal titles, media, theses, and more.  
    • For books, print journals or other tangible items, be sure to note whether the item is located in the Architecture Library or in Folsom Library.  
  • Options are available to search for ejournals by subject, title, and ISSN.

Boro of Manhattan - Sanborn Maps

LICENSE AGREEMENT: These images are licensed from Sanborn Mapping and Geographic Information Service (Pelham, NY) for use by the Rensselaer community. Rensselaer faculty, staff and currently enrolled students may display and or print these images without limitation for teaching and research purposes at Rensselaer. By accessing these images, you agree to the terms of the license agreement. Community users will be asked to enter their Rensselaer user name (RCSID) and password to view images.

Manhattan Block Index

  • The Block Index is a finding aid to the 16 files of maps in tiff format listed below. This index starts with volume, but also gives sheet number/block number/locality (Manhattan)/ and file name.
  • Start with the volume number to navigate through the collection of tiffs.

 

Manhattan Street Index

  • The Street Index is a finding aid to the 16 files of maps in tiff format. The index starts with street name, but also gives street type/locality/address numbers (start-to-end)/volume number/sheet number/odd or even/and file name.
  • Start with the volume number to navigate through the collection of tiffs.

Once you open the contents of a volume (linked below), please choose specific file name: For instance, v1np039 (vol 1, north, p.039)

Each volume has a "Key" page which places the volume within a larger area map, and contains a box that lists the detailed sheet numbers referenced in that volume.
