Rensselaer Architecture Library: BArch / MArch Projects

BArch, MArch & MSArch Final Project Submission

The Architecture Library binds, catalogs, and stores print copies of the School of Architecture's undergraduate 5th-year, Masters, and Master of Science final project books. To facilitate binding, submissions must conform to the guidelines listed below. Once submitted to library staff, the advisors are notified of projects available for review and approval. Approved projects will be bound and added to the library collection.

Questions of content, academic requirements and approval should be directed to the faculty advisor and the School of Architecture.

Submission Requirements

  • Title page must include:
    • name
    • title
    • studio advisor's name
    • "Rensselaer School of Architecture"
    • month and year of graduation
    • degree (Bachelor, Master, Master of Science)
  • Margins must be no less than 1/2" ; left margin (binding edge) must be no less than 3/4".
  • Be aware that the bindery will trim 1/8" from all margins before binding.
  • Oversized pages must be folded such that they will not interfere with binding - fold must be at least 3/4" from binding edge.
  • Print on 8 1/2" x 11" acid-free archival bond paper. Look for those specific terms when purchasing paper.
  • Print 2 copies of the title page.
  • Enclose in a 10" x 13" manila envelope with the extra copy of the title page affixed to the front.
  • Supplemental materials must be labeled with name, title and date on each item.

Helpful Hints

  • As long as the printing is done on acid-free, archival paper, the weight/thickness of the paper can vary.
  • With advisor approval, double-sided printing is acceptable if the paper is heavy enough that images and print don't show through on the other side.
  • Paper weight guide:
    • 20 lb. - light, standard in copiers and printers.
    • 22 - 24 lb. - heavier, smoother, less "show-through". Common for business letterhead.
    • 28 - 32 lb. - heaviest, smooth finish, works for double-sided, little or no "show-through".
  • Landscape printing is fine if the margin requirements are followed.
  • Full bleed pages, that print from one edge of the paper to the other, also need to follow the margin requirements for binding.
  • Transparencies are acceptable.
  • The library cannot bind additional personal copies. The Rensselaer Collegiate Store has a binding service.
